Estrella War XXII
Check out the live video HERE!
This Estrella was, by far, the most well attended coursing we've ever
done. We had 20-25 dogs come to course every single day -- people
said they could hear the excited barks and howls from our pack for
miles around the site. It was incredibly thrilling and absolutely
exhausting!! :)

We had probably 10-15 new dogs try it over the course of the war and I
believe only 3 or 4 that didn't quite get it. Most of those were happy to
run along side a buddy and had a great time anyway.

The usual suspects were there and in fine form: Hime, Bella, Baron,
Katula, Ajax, Khueva, Max... And there were a few new stars this
time around... 4 Great Danes that coursed single and in pairs that were
terrific. 2 Weimereners that were so keen the gentleman almost
couldn't hold them. Caid's Queen's Champion Equestrian brought her
ferocious Pommeranian out and that little girl was so good she'll give
HuneBear a run for her money!! There was a new whippet from the
West named Fennis that was spectacular (my two boys were pathetic
by the way -- Ludwig insisted in heading the lure off at the pass every
single time instead of following, and Otto insisted on body-checking
Ludwig and Fennis whenever he could). Several greys showed up and
showed off their superior coursing skills. We had several incredible
puppies (I think they were Malamute and some other mix) that blew us
all away. And there were countless others who's names I didn't learn
(there were a LOT of dogs out there!) -- many beloved mutts, some
labs, a Belgian Tervurian, a Jack Russel, a heeler or Australian Cattle
dog, a Malamute, Saluqis... who
else am I missing??

I have to say though, we had one hound that absolutely took my breath
away... Jami'a and her husband brought Rashiiq and Anoush (am I
butchering their names??) their Saluqis... Rashiiq is their young male,
and he was one of the best coursers I've ever had the
privilege to see go.

On the last day we set up a very challenging course (having done easy
ones the previous three days) -- it required a couple sharper turns (not
too sharp) and some zig zags... Rashiiq followed the lure almost as if he
were drawn to it by some other-worldly power. He followed it faithfully
and honestly through every turn and did it with amazing speed and grace. And when you see his size (he's as large as a greyhound) well,
it was just poetic. Really something special to witness.
