CSULB KaleidescopeFair
We had an awsome time at Cal State Long Beach today! As soon as I arrived there were already hounds waiting to course. My fears were allayed. Although we got started late (we didn't have enough material to enclose the entire course,) we had a great showing by Bella, Finlay, Brisbane anf "The Danes". We had some newcomers as well, including a Jack Russell who was extremely calm up untill it was time to run. I did take a complete circuit before she realized what she was supposed to do, but after that flag passed, boom!

The Site was somewhat small forcing me to use whatever space was available. I am happy however to report that the site we had was much bigger than I had envisioned. I didn't want to cross any sidewalks so I came up with a complicated slow speed course that crossed the line once. Turned out that was the right choice. Bella, the only dragster there was never able to get to full speed and could make every turn.
Cera's dane, Dexter also made a great first showing today. His first course was marred by a missed turn where he tried to go left but the bulk of him kept going straight. Physics in action, he went down on his right side sliding across the grass about 4 feet (I measured the marks he left). He immediatly got up dusted himself off and kept going! The Audience was suprised to say the least.
Ahh the audience! At times we had about 60 people watching. Anytime the dogs started barking in anticipation not to mention that distinctive sound. The people flocked to us. The Danes were also an attraction all to themselves. Many groups of people came from all over the site to see the equestrian canidates. Since I was going to be there all day and I knew there wasn't going to be continuous running (Bella thought so though,) I put together some pictures on a poster board from Estrella and set them behind some coursing handouts.
All in all this was a fantastic event and i'm very glad that we were able to be a part of it. We should go back next year and actually have an organized schedule to show others what we're all about.
